Metals in edible, foraged mushrooms

Marissa Hanley ’22 received a fellowship as part of the Lee-SIP scholars to conduct research this summer. She was selected due to her promise as a rising researcher.

She chose to focus her research on nutrient and toxic metals in edible, foraged mushrooms. Marissa has been diligently learning and practicing her mycology skills for ID and ecophysiology of mushrooms.

We have been fortunate to team up with Dr. Eric Vukicevich of Connecticut College and his mycology expertise to help with ID, ecophysiology, and ecological niches of mushrooms.

The project is focusing from coastal Connecticut up to southern Vermont and New Hampshire.
