Northeast GSA 2022 – Lancaster PA

Northeast Geological Society of America meeting held in Lancaster PA this year was a blast. The meeting is comfortably sized to see new faces and run into familiar friends.

This year, I teamed up with Dr. Zsuzsanna Balogh-Brunstad of Hartwick College to hold a special technical session on “Soil Processes and Biogeochemical Interactions”. This was a fun opportunity for students, faculty, and professionals to showcase their near-surface biogeochemical work and get some excellent feedback.

I presented some of the work on the Thames, Connecticut, and Merrimack River I recently had accepted for publication as well as shale weathering publication which just came out in Geoderma this year.

The conference was face to face and masks were optional and it was a joyous but odd feeling seeing people’s smiles. Overall the students had a great time and I only wish I could have spent more time, as I had to jet off to teach my classes at UMass the next day.

Above is Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square which served as our fantastic venue.
