Snowy-Cold Virginia 2026 winter

Winter 2026 has been snowy and cold with total snow between 6″ and 11″ of snow.

Charlottesville, VA, typically receives an average of 16″ to 22″ of snow per year but the past 10 years has been very mild to little snow. This is likely due to the increasingly warm summer and jet stream fluctuations preventing big snow falls.

This year was a shift back to the normal with big snows. It did shutdown UVA a couple of days due to sleet and 3″ of ice but students made their way back to campus.

Our door field work has been limited to only the most essential water sampling and equipment management but we carry on!
