Museum of the Earth – Teacher Resource Day

Demonstrating new ways to teach and illustrate geosciences to future generations of geoscientists is important. The Museum of the Earth, located in Trumansburg NY, was kind enough to invite me to speak with teachers from upstate New York about Critical Zone science. During their annual Teacher Resource Day on October 1st, teachers and educators were given an assortment of fossils, educational resources, and rock specimens for use in their classrooms. As a guest, I showcased one of our newest days to demonstrate how rocks, soils, and water interact. Using local rocks, soils and mason jars, we tested for pH, water holding properties, and the possibility to test their impact on plant growth. In addition to my segment, Nancy Coddington the WSKG Public Media Director of Science of Content, Services & Programming, gave a wonderful lecture on using PBS in the classroom.
